The Opportunity
As the Contract Supervisor for the Avon Countryside Contract, you will be the lynchpin between the Contract Manager and the operational delivery teams. Your duties will be diverse and challenging, covering operational management, team leadership, client communication, and rigorous adherence to Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) standards. The nature of the works on this contract is highly varied, providing an exciting environment where no two days are the same.
The primary clients for this contract include, but are not limited to, the Environment Agency, Balfour Beatty, National Highways, and the Ringway Group. The scope of work encompasses:
Vegetation Management: Maintenance and control of vegetation along riverbanks, reservoirs (for the Environment Agency), and highway verges and central reserves (for National Highways and Ringway Group). This includes mechanical and manual cutting, chemical control, and arboricultural works.
Grounds Maintenance: Routine maintenance of soft and hard landscaped areas on client sites, including industrial estates, service stations, and depot facilities.
Environmental Enhancements: Involvement in habitat creation, ecological mitigation works, and general estate management tasks that contribute to the environmental well-being of the Avon area.
Winter Services: Coordination and supervision of winter maintenance, including gritting and snow clearance operations as required by the infrastructure clients.
Your specific responsibilities will include:
Assisting the Contract Manager in the effective management of the programmed maintenance, ensuring all works are delivered on time, within budget, and to the client's specifications. This involves detailed planning and resource allocation.
Oversee the programme of works and delivery through the Glendale Live field management system. You will be responsible for accurate data input, real-time monitoring, and reporting on progress to the management team and clients.
Motivate, support and monitor the performance of delivery teams across a wide geographical area, ensuring high morale, productivity, and adherence to company standards. This includes conducting regular site inspections and performance reviews.
Monitor staff timekeeping, holidays and sickness, managing rotas and ensuring adequate coverage for all scheduled works.
Proactively lead by example, especially in QHSE requirements. You will be instrumental in conducting toolbox talks, site inductions, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS), ensuring a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe practices.
Maintenance and enforcement of security of vehicle, plant and equipment, including daily checks, service scheduling, and reporting any damage or loss. You will manage the allocation and use of specialist plant and machinery required for the contract.
Enforcement of the quality and customer care ethics through the workforce and maintain workforce discipline, serving as the first point of contact for operational issues and client feedback on site.
Take responsibility for health and safety and actively participate in the maintenance and improvement of the overall Company Health and Safety culture. This includes investigating incidents, near misses, and ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements, including CDM regulations where applicable to the infrastructure works.
