Glendale has a truly great new opportunity for a General Manager based in Mid Sussex on one of the most forward-thinking, ambitious and unique contracts in the market.

Embark on a remarkable career journey with an industry leader, overseeing a strategically significant contract. This role encompasses a comprehensive array of services, ranging from grounds maintenance for major parks and open spaces to the care of tennis courts, cricket squares, bowling greens, play areas, outdoor gyms, and skateparks, along with the management of four Green Flag parks.

The role also encompasses the management of Countryside space and linked activities as well as promoting and encouraging community involvement of all stakeholders and residents.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in managing large grounds maintenance and countryside teams, driving productivity, ensuring service quality, and fostering continuous improvement. This hands-on role involves on-site team monitoring, swift issue resolution, and overall responsibility for contract accounts and reporting.

We seek candidates with strong organizational skills and experience in people and contract management, coupled with a genuine passion for parks, conservation, countryside assets and the natural environment. Exceptional leadership, enthusiasm, effective people management, and communication skills are paramount. A horticultural qualification, proficiency in IT and field management systems and a strategic outlook for continuous improvement are essential.

Qualifications

A nationally recognised academic qualification to at least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, for example:

  • the National Certificate (BTEC or EdExcel) NVQ Level 3 or

  • the Advanced National Certificate, or

  • the National Diploma

Or equivalent experience in the grounds maintenance sector

A full, clean, driving licence is an essential requirement for this role.

 

Specific skills include

  • Good financial and medium-term planning skills as well as clear-sighted operational management awareness

  • Good accounting, IT (Google Workspace) and written skills and the ability to produce professional reports and documents

  • Have an understanding and appreciation of field management systems

  • Demonstrable range of people management skills

  • Strong Health & Safety culture and awareness

  • Clear identification with the requirements of a customer

  • Good presentation skills

  • The ability to identify opportunities for the Company
